'Myretoun Ruby' is one of the early-flowering heathers that bring a carpet of colour into the garden from late winter. It is very hardy and although happiest in acid soil, will tolerate mildly alkaline conditions but is not happy on very chalky soils. One of the smaller species of heather, it has rich green foliage, and rose-pink flowers which deepen to purple-red. It makes an excellent feature in winter containers and window boxes. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it the Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
